Telephone technology enables data to be transported via private copper lines with no switching between the devices - serial data is transported transparently and with no addressing.
The direct lease line devices (LL modems) are pre-configured in pairs and connect straight to one another. Instead of 2 wires per line, 4 can be connected to improve transmission.
Multiple partyline or multidrop modems (PL modems) are wired together and share data.
For broadband lease lines for serial and network data, see INSYS SDSL.
